We have lots of bamboo at Emerald

First there are two basic kinds of bamboo.

Running bamboo are typically very hardy and come in hundreds of varieties and hybrids. These are aggressive spreaders and must be well controlled or container grown. Some are dwarf ground cover types and others can grow up to 90 feet tall and have 6" canes. Roots can run 20 feet side ways underground and can sprout canes all along the root.

Clumping bamboo grow equally as fast as running bamboo but are typically from more tropical regions and care should be taken to get hardy varieties. These bamboo spread by a clumping rhizome that shoots up canes very close to the older canes producing a thicker and more controlled clump.

Emerald Garden has a selection of both types.
