There are a few things
to consider when building
a pond. Location, will you have fish, formal
or informal, location and location! |

Dig your hole. This is probably the
hardest part. Be sure to leave shelves
around the side of the pond for your marginal
plants. We recommend a depth of
18 to 24 inches. You could go deeper
if you like. Backfill with sand or pad
with carpet padding or even old carpet to
buffer the liner
from the ground. |
Next lay out your liner. Snug it up close to
to the sides. If it's an irregular shape,
you may have to fold and crease the liner
to make it look natural, even though after a few
months and it's filled with water, plants and fish
you won't even notice that it's there. |

Place rocks or boulders on the liner to
hold it in place while you fill the pond with
water. |
When the pond is 1/2 full you can start to
lay your border. This is where your creativity
comes into play. |

Once The pond is full you can start adding plants, such
as your marginals (plants that go around the edges of your pond) and water
lillies. The pond water may be a little murky at first but don't panic, it
will clear up in a few days, after everything settles. You want to
wait 7 to 10 days before you add fish.

Now you have a pond .that, with a little seasonal
maintenance, you can enjoy for years to come. |
